Jailer box office collection Day 6: Rajinikanth’s film breaks all existing records, close to entering Rs 400 crore club, among five biggest Tamil hits ever

Amidst intense competition from various fronts, Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer, featuring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, continues to forge ahead with unwavering determination, resolutely maintaining its impressive stride at the box office dominance by surpassing the Rs 225 crore mark in India within seven days of its release. The movie’s success is projected to propel it towards the Rs 400 crore mark globally. Only four films have previously gone past Rs 400 crore mark in the history of Tamil cinema — Rajinikanth’s 2.O and Kabali, Ponniyin Selvan and Vikram. The film is expected to enter this hallowed club today.

As per early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk, Jailer, featuring Rajinikanth, earned around Rs 18 crore in India on day seven, boosting its net domestic earnings to Rs 225.15 crore. The film is recording the highest occupancy rate of 81.59 percent in Tamil Nadu.

Considering its box office performance, Jailer is poised to outshine Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 collections in Tamil Nadu. This achievement would make Jailer the highest-grossing film in the state. In just seven days, ‘Jailer’ has broken many records at the box office. Going by the trend, the film is all set to beat Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’ collections in Tamil Nadu. With this, ‘Jailer’ will become the highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu.

In the Southern region, Jailer has been maintaining its momentum with minimal competition, as Chiranjeevi’s recent release, Bhola Shankar, struggles at box office. In the Northern market, however, Jailer faces rivalry from Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, which has amassed Rs 229 crore in India since its release on August 11.

Jailer, an action-packed entertainer, hit theatres on August 10. The film features explosive cameos from Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff. Its favourable reviews have undoubtedly contributed to its immense success.

Apart from Tamil Nadu, ‘Jailer’ is also performing exceptionally well in Kerala and has raked in nearly Rs 33 crore in the state.

The film features Rajinikanth, Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi and Tamannaah in pivotal roles. Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff appeared in cameo roles in the film.

Produced by Sun Pictures, the film had music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. VTV Ganesh, Redin Kingsley, Sunil, Mirna Menon, Rithvik and several others were part of the supporting cast.
