The National Awards for Export Excellence in Export Performance is instituted with the objective to provide a platform for recognizing and appreciating the efforts of the exporters for their outstanding performance in the export of diversified products from the coconut industry and motivate them to intensify their efforts in coconut export further, thereby placing the nation on a higher step in the ladder of export of coconut and its products. The award comprises of prize money, memento and citation. This Award Scheme of the Board has 12 awards in different categories to ensure representation of exporters dealing with all kinds of coconut products from kernel based products, water based products and shell based products and under these 3 categories, 3 awards – gold, silver and bronze are instituted with Rs.1.00 lakh, Rs.0.75 Lakh and Rs.0.50 lakh respectively as prize money. Best Women exporter and best innovative product exporter are also recognized and encouraged. A total number of 32 awards will be distributed for the period 2019-20 to 2022-23 under different categories.

The coconut sector in the country has recorded a quantum jump in the export of coconut products during the past decade. The notification of Coconut Development Board as Export Promotion Council for coconut products other than coir in 2009-10 has increased the momentum of coconut product export. The Board has so far issued around 6500 Registration-Cum-Membership Certificate to exporters. The total value of coconut products exported during the year 2022-23 touched Rs. 3554.23 crores. The export of coconut products has shown a growth of nearly 74% over the export of 2018-19 recording an almost two- fold increase in the export revenue from coconut products into the country. Total export of coconut products including coir has reached around Rs.7500 crores which shows the importance of coconut in Indian economy.
