INDIAN NAVY CONDUCTS ‘PUNEET SAGAR ABHIYAN’ NEAR NAVAL STATIONS ACROSS TAMILNADU
As part of the Puneet Sagar Abhiyan campaign, cleanup drives were conducted by the Indian Navy on coastal areas near the proximity of Indian Naval units in Tamil Nadu.
The areas covered during the drive on 21 January 2023 include:
- Valangapuri Beach by INS Parundu, Ramanathapuram
- Nagore Beach by Naval Detachment, Nagapattinam
- Kalpakkam Beach by INS Pallava
- Kollumedu lake by Naval Transmitting Station, Avadi and
- Uvari Beach by INS Kattabomman, Tirunelveli.
Along with Indian Naval personnel, NCC cadets also enthusiastically joined in making Indian coasts a better place for marine life and providing a clean environment. The aim of the campaign is to increase public awareness about accumulation and subsequent impact of garbage along the coastlines/ beaches.
Non-biodegradable waste material that includes plastic bottles, wrappers, thermocol, glass pieces etc, are collected during the cleanup drive for safe disposal.
