A RARE TREAT ON THE CARDS

The Centre for Performing and Fine Arts of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology will be hosting its maiden Navaratri Utsav 2018 for two days at the Dr. T.P. Ganesan Auditorium of the Kattankulathur campus on October 12 and 13 starting at 5:30 pm.
The rare treat starts off on October 12 with a Jugalbandhi featuring Padma Bhushan and Grammy award winner Pandit Viswa Mohan Bhatt, an eminent classical musician of global repute. With him will be the Young Violin maestro, Ambi Subramaniam. Seen as the “New King” of Indian classical violin and India’s Itzhak Pearlmann, Ambi has performed across the globe.
Following the classical musical rendition comes the ‘Trishakti- Dimensions of Devi,’ by renowned performers of Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kathak . A former Director of the Kalakshatra Foundation, Priyadarshini Govind is the rarest of rare Bharatanatyam dancers. Sujata Mohapatra is a distinguished danseuse of Odissi. And Vidha Lal, a Guinness Record holder is a multi-faceted exponent of Kathak.
Day Two of the Navaratri Utsav extravaganza on October 13 begins with a Classical Confluence of Dr. “Mahanadhi” Shobana Vignesh and her ensemble. Dr. Shobana Vignesh is the Head of the Centre for Performing and Fine Arts, SRMIST and is one of the leading Carnatic vocalists and recording artists in India and has over 150 Albums to her credit.
Next will be the Colours of India featuring Bharatanatyam by Priya Venkataraman; Kathakali by Kalamandalam Manoj; Mohiniattam of Jayaprabha Menon; Kuchupudi by Prateeksha Kashi; Kathak by Meghranjani Medhi and Odissi by Vrinda Chadha, all prominent artists well versed in their disciplines and internationally renowned.
