Back to the Future – Experience Space through Experts
Chennai, Feb 7th 2017: Hindustan University School of Aeronautical Sciences, in association with Aeronautical Society of India, Chennai chapter inaugurated an INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR on SPACE ODYSSEY- ‘Experience Space through Experts’ at Hindustan International School, Guindy. The seminar brought together eminent speakers from different parts of the world who have contributed immensely to the space research program. Dr. Ken Johnston, Sr, NASA Astronaut, USA was the chief guest of the program.
Dr. R. Ken Johnston, one of the four Civilian Astronaut Consultant Pilots from the Apollo Moon Program, an ex-US Marine cadet and now a retired aerospace expert imparted insights on cockpit and instrument development and training of Apollo Lunar Module. He dwelled on management of the Lunar Receiving Laboratory, where all the moon rocks were stored, curated and catalogued while also highlighting about packaging and shipping of lunar samples. Shaun Moss, director of Mars Society Australia creator and administrator of the Mars Settlement Research Organisation (MSRO) group on Facebook spoke on the challenges of space settlement.
Dr. Dilip Shah, Professor & Head, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Hindustan University said “The astronauts with their years of experience were requested by our team to come and give insights on their study which will enlighten the student community on the various advancements undergone in space research. This seminar will highlight to the students on the present and future technologies used in the successful missions completed and the fore coming missions in the arena of space explorations. We believe the findings incorporated by these eminent personalities will kindle the interest of the students and align them towards the development of Indian space research. Students will benefit from the first hand information about cockpit and instrument development and training for space missions, management and receiving of space samples to be collected in Indian space missions and coping with the challenges of space settlement”.
Aeronautical Society honoured the achievements of Prof. P. Baskaran, Former HOD, Department of Aerospace Engineering, MIT Chennai , Prof. K. Jayaraman, Former Registrar, Anna University Chennai, Prof. B.T.N. Sridhar, HOD, Department of Aerospace Engineering, MIT Chennai, Prof. R. Dhanraj, Former HOD, Department of Aerospace Engineering, MIT Chennai, Prof. P Sriram, Former HOD, Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Madras, Prof. S R Chakravathy, Aeronautical Society Council Member, Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Madras, Mr.Shamil Bicha Vice President Avalon Technologies and Mr. Sreejith Padmanabhan Sales Director Tentacle Aerologistix.
They were honoured for their outstanding achievements in the field of Aerospace Engineering. Awardees were all eminent and outstanding professors of Aeronautical aerospace engineering who contributed immensely in shaping up outstanding aeronautical, aerospace engineers and scientists for India. Their role in participating in aerospace research with our defence and pace organisations has also been well documented.
